Why Use a
Professional? Consider this:
|
|
Home remodeling is NOT typically a hobby for the
unskilled. The homeowner should be the thinker and driver and the work should be
done by professionals skilled in the appropriate trades. Even the best of
contractors are not concerned with things such as: increasing the value of your
home or spending more than should be spent on a particular home remodel in a
particular neighborhood. You and the contractor decide on what is to be done and
they do it!
Once your decision have been made to move forward
on remodeling your home, find good contractors. There are several services (free
services) that will help you do just that. Our link above points you to one of
them. Get ratings and history on the contractors. Ask tough questions: Are they
bonded and for how much? Is their insurance current and can they prove it? How
long have they been is business locally? Any references? Do they have have a
protfolio of their work?, etc.
Meet with the contractors -- this should cost you
nothing and you can also expect a free or very reasonably priced estimate for
the remodel job.
Go to your local library. Check out some books
and learn the details on what should be in any contracts you engage in with your
chosen contractor. Certain agreements "should" be in place before you
start.
